Matt was raised in Littleton, CO and graduated from Dakota Ridge High School, where he participated on the soccer, track and football teams. Matt graduated from Stanford University with a BA and MA in Psychology. While attending Stanford, Matt played on the nationally ranked soccer team that reached back-to-back NCAA Final Fours.
