Selling an idea? Book or script, which is more likely to be a success?

Question by Taylor: Selling an idea? Book or script, which is more likely to be a success?
I have a great idea for a book or movie, and I have already started writing part of it in script form. But I’m worried that if I sell the script, I won’t get to have any say in the movie, and it won’t turn out the way I had pictured it.
But would a book be more likely to be a hit?

Which should I try and how should I go about advertising the idea.

I would write a plot summary, sample chapter (if book) or a few scenes and then approach a literary agent. Publishers and Producers now go through agents most of the time because of the sheer volume of manuscripts that head their way. If you know someone in the industry, talk to them. Talk to small film makers as they already know the industry and have their foot in the door but are more accessible than the big guns. They might have some more directions for you.
