My PC Can’t Connect to Panasonic Digital Camcorder?

Question by mmiller751: My PC Can’t Connect to Panasonic Digital Camcorder?
I have a Panasonic PV-GS50D digital camcorder. I want to capture video from the digital tape to my PC. I have installed the USB driver for this camcorder from the CD, and Windows does recognize this device in the hardware profile correctly, but when I try to capture video, Win Movie Maker tells me that the camcorder is not set correctly to set it to Web/Camera mode. The manual says to do this only if for capturing video from the SD card. It says to set to VCR mode to capture video from the digital tape. It doesn’t work either way. My PC won’t make a connection with the camcorder. I’ve even tried the video capture program that came with the camcorder (DV Studio) it doesn’t recognize the camcorder either. I’ve tried plugging it into all five different USB ports on my PC and Windows Moviemaker still can’t make the connection. My USB ports all work fine with other devices. I am using Win XP. Any suggestions?

a miniDV vcam must be DV~Firewire400**-connected to computer to upload video thru video editing* or capture application while vcam is ON PLAYBACK. Most (digital) tape vcams have 4-pin DV ports; before cable purchase** check pc or mac for DV port {VCAM@4-pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC@4/ 6-pin?}. If none, install firewire card: pci for desktop or pcmcia / express for laptop.
