EXCLUSIVE: Casco woman front and center for Tuscon shooting rampage

Self Portrait, 2006

I was tagged recently in the self-descriptive tag game, and I found this old picture of me around the same time so, OK, Profound Whatever, I’ll bite. (I’m not going to tag anybody though; if you feel like photographing yourself, I give you my permission)

Some things about me:

1. This picture was taken for the poster for Indiana Bum and the Pamphlet of the Dead, a short film I made in 2005 / 06 that was shown in local Lawrence theater Liberty Hall. So, technically, this is a picture of police detective Bill Bills.

2. Even though this picture is 3 years old, I look almost exactly the same.

3. I am a professional riffer—I make fun of movies. The company is QuipTracks, and how it works is you download mp3 commentary tracks for current movies, then play them along with your own copy of the DVD. (This way, there’s no copyright infringement.) We have 10 full-length tracks available, including Jurassic Park, Lady in the Water, Mission Impossible 2, and most recently, Ang Lee’s Hulk (2003). We also have one episode of a Show (which is a video, as opposed to a commentary track), in which we make fun of an episode of Rocky Jones: Space Ranger. This is all available at www.quiptracks.com.

5. I own about 11 cameras, four of them homemade.

6. I made a working electric guitar using an NES as the body. I took the neck from the Epiphone I had and sort of Frankensteined it together. It has a built-in distortion pedal that—in theory—can be turned on with the Power and Reset buttons, but I never got it to work. The knobs can be accessed by flipping up the cartridge slot cover.

7. I have 8 cats. BB, Tawny, Misty, Zoe, Scooter, Little Bill, Sam, and Poko. Most of them were strays. We live in the country so that tends to happen.

8. I started out in programming at community college. I think I could have actually gone that route if I had ever had a good teacher. Doing some ActionScript 3 programming for a graphic design project made me realize I kind of miss it.

9. I am working with my brother to make a parody of manga/anime like Yu-gi-oh! and Pokemon. It’s called "Hoof! Hoof! Battle Battle Dinshou!!!" and it’s about a kid named Lint who wants to be the world’s greatest Hoofist. The game of hoofs is played with your knuckles formed vaguely like a hoof and the object is to tap the opponent’s wrist. It’s like thumb wrestling but with more freedom of movement. Right now we’re working on a manga version, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to animate it…

Thanks to Rowena R. for the curves.

When you decide to become a public servant it’s often with dreams of changing the world and perhaps even making history. When Sara Hummel Rajca, 31, formerly of Casco Township, joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, she certainly didn’t know the history part would hit so harshly.
