Youth Commission vs Student Govt?

I’ve been considered for my city’s Youth Commission, and if I get in I will know tomorrow.

It is an advisory body to the City Council, dedicated to promoting the youth voice in local government. “Youth Commission is made up of ten students of diverse backgrounds who care about the community and have a drive to make the community the best possible place for youth. Youth Commissioners are supported by three adult advisors and City staff. They advise the Parks and Recreation Department to identify and address concerns and issues and are responsible for planning and implementing social and community-oriented activities. The Youth Commission has organized youth-oriented events such as movie nights, parades, youth forums, and also participates in city events.”

My application was very thorough and unique, and I prepared for my interview like a job applicant. It went really well, and by the way our discussion went I think I’m a top applicant. I also heard the Chair talking about me at school…

I’m also thinking of running for student government. I know it’s a popularity contest, but in competiting against the most popular guy in my class i have some very viable ideas to market. I am considering both opportunities because I want to put my motivation to work and improve our school with my many ideas.

But if I were to chose to devote time to one of these, which one would be better? I was thinking the Youth Commission, because it’s based on merit and has a broader spectrum than leading a school class president who actually has very little power. I hope colleges realize that.

I would say youth commission every time.
