In the old days writers wrote about smart,adventuriuos and curagious kids.Even in the movies kids were smart and brave!Nowadays there either making kids out to be really stupid or exstremly lucky like harry potter!!Despite his popularity with kids and adults he seems like an airhead who gets very lucky all the time!!

Good point, they also make fathers out to be idiots.
I think it has to do alot with who is publishing the books. They turn down an awful lot of scripts.
