What’s the best way to burn a .AVI file to a DVD-R?

Question by Rockin B: What’s the best way to burn a .AVI file to a DVD-R?
I have a video I modified in Windows Movie Maker, and then I exported it as a .AVI file; Afterwords, I supposedly ‘burned’ it to a DVD using the generic software Windows provided. It works in my computer, but I have no DVD player (I’m making these for some other people) and want to be sure. Also, when I explore the files of actual DVDs, it’s always a .VOB file and other stuff; My DVD clearly does not contain these. I want to be sure that it works. Any help? Software, methods?

Thanks,
Shrike
