I just purchased a gz-ms230 camcorder, the in box software sucks, no editing options AT ALL. I have the option to take it and put it directly on a disc. I’d like to be able to cut pieces of the videos and insert transitions between segments of video. I’d also like it to be somewhat cheap if not free, I’m not trying to make movies, just nicely put together home videos.

I am using a tool called DVD Creator which lets me burn all kinds of videos to DVD easily. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional.
