What programs should I use?

Question by : What programs should I use?
I want to do some video and sound editing, and I want it to be a shade more professional then microsoft movie maker. But, I also was hoping for some shareware/free programs.

Anybody have any suggestions for free software that will allow me to make some sweet compositions and videos?

There’s no middle ground when it comes to inexpensive (free!) video editors. They’re either rather simple and easy to use or they’re complicated and not so easy to use. The free versions of the better editors are usually no better than Movie Maker. Some of the better ones that showed promise – like JahShaka – have been abandoned;-( Some of the best ones out there today (like Lightworks) are really professional and only do linear editing (no fancy 3D effects, transitions, etc.) or they run on Linux computers.

If you have a mind that understands technical things and have some experience editing so you know about previewing and clipping and rendering/publishing, try ZS4 for editing and WAX for special effects. WAX is an older program but it runs fine on my Vista machine. If you have any trouble installing it, right click on the installer that you downloaded and run in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
