What is Synergy as it relates to the Media?

Question by Gordon P: What is Synergy as it relates to the Media?
I understand that synergy is when multiple parts of a corporation come together and create more profit than if one area of the company went at it alone—but I need an example–my professor told me to think of disney….

Disney writes about an upcoming movie in a magazine that they own, people read the magazine and in turn go see the movie–which makes them want to by the soundtrack ( which disney also makes through the record business it owns) ?

if this doesn’t make very much sense..i’m confused..

thank you

It can be even more complicated.

1.) Disney makes a movie. Radio Disney playing in one scene.

2.) ABC/ABC Family promotes movie –“making of” documentary.

3.) Movie website promotes other Disney-owned media.

4.) Disney-owned media give rave reviews to Disney movie, announce movie-themed ride at Disneyland.

5.) Hype gets movie sequel greenlighted — and the cycle begins again.
