Video editing software???!?

Question by Jeff: Video editing software???!?
I have been making a lot of movies lately with my friends and by myself that involve a lot of action, shooting, and blood.

Currently, I use WIndows Movie Maker to edit these videos and you can only do so much. I have a way of getting muzzle flashes and sound effects but if I want a machine gun muzzle flash, I would have to go through a lot of work. I was wondering what program I could use that would be the best for this type of filming? I have heard some things about Adobe After Effects and some other program but I don’t know which one I should look into. What do you guys reccommend would work perfectly for this, and how much would it cost? Thanks for the help!
