I dined here with Kiki for the first time (yes, incredible, as I used to live around the corner for a while) the other day. I was so taken by the amazing interior (like a time warp) and the delicious food and service (our waiter has worked here since 1991 and the owner came our a couple of times to chat, share some history and make sure we were well sated) that I’m planning on my birthday supper here on the 10th. It has that old-school vibe that is becoming increasingly rare in Cape Town, as old buildings get ripped down and new, soulless restaurants take their place. If you’re into a bit of a good 70’s vibe in a relaxed yet sincere setting then I can highly recommend Mario’s, even tho you most probably already know that!
