To Verdener/Worlds Apart – Have you heard of this movie? How will you respond?

Question by Bernard Jean-Pierre: To Verdener/Worlds Apart – Have you heard of this movie? How will you respond?
I received an email from a brother warning me about this movie. It is a fictional story that was comprised from several different stories and newspaper articles supposedly read by the writer or director (it is NOT a true story), and so he decided to make a movie about it. The movie is basically about a young sister who is trying to decide between a love interest (who is not a worshipper of Jehovah) and remaining faithful to the truth. The film highlights the disfellowshipping of her, and the support of her mother, who from what I understand eventually becomes apostate etc. From what I can deduce this movie is designed to bring yet more negativity to our organization, and tries to paint us as being a crazed, abuseful sect…..not really suprising huh? If you do a search for this movie you will see that many apostate sites have a listing for this movie, as well as the typical “jehovahswitnesses.com” and “.net” type sites. To me this is clear indication that this movie is ‘anti-Jehovah’s Witness’, and supports the apostate agenda.
Ofcourse each one must make their own decision. (Gal. 6:5) So I am not going to say ‘don’t watch it’, that is not my decision to make, but I am CERTAINLY NOT saying ‘do watch it’. I am just saying prepare yourself, do your research and come to a decision before curiosity sets in. It is afterall a movie, and everyone likes movies. But as Christians we already know that Satan is attacking us directly and indirectly, he is very clever and subtle, and he knows how curiosity can lead to interest. So if and when this movie causes a stir here in the States, be ready for it, and be “ready to make a defense” (1 Peter 3:15) Do your research, examine any applicable Bible Principles, pray on it….and without a doubt, as a mature Christian, you will come to the best decision regarding supporting this movie (by watching it) or not. If you decide to warn others that is your decision to make.

I hadn’t heard of this movie. But it’s good to know this apostate propaganda is having this kind of influence through a film.

Usually though these attacks turn out to attract more people to the truth than otherwise.

I recall a popular TV show in the nineties portrayed us as fanatics who would shun our child if he had a transfusion forced on him. Well, since otherwise I had liked this show and had previously thought the producer/writer was a fair person, I and my Mom, who is a nurse, both wrote separate letters to him explaining the truth about our stand on blood and that what was portrayed on his TV show was very inaccurate. I think we got just some vague thank you letters back in reply at the time.

Well lo and behold….several years later on another of this producer/writer’s shows he dealt with the blood issue in a much more favorable and balanced way and portrayed we Witnesses as sensible reasonable people who have good reasons for what we believe! Those who opposed us were portrayed as narrow-minded and fanatical! Since then on this producers shows he has maintained a much more reasonable view when it comes to peoples’ religious beliefs. I wonder if he has been in further contact with the Witnesses since we first wrote to him?

Anyway..the point is Jehovah has always turned opposition into a favorable witness. Think of Balaam.
