Taken from IMDb: “A new live action comedy-adventure loosely based on the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” segment of Disney’s Fantasia.”

So, its not made from a book at all, but part of the Disney Movie Fantasia.

Disney’s version is based on a poem by German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose poem was pretty much the exact same thing as the Disney version except that the sorcerer wasn’t angry at his apprentice in the original version.
