Q&A: Which video editing software should I get?

Question by Xisca: Which video editing software should I get?
I’m only an amateur in video editing, but I do have a bit of a passion for it. I’d like to definitely learn more and improve. I’ve really only used iMovie and Windows Movie Maker. I know, so low-tech of me.. which is why I think I should upgrade to a better video editing software. I’m gonna make videos mostly for fun and friends. Maybe for some school projects as well. I’d like to make videos something like this: http://tinyurl.com/25m3e8m or http://tinyurl.com/yk7nhmy . Obviously those videos are a bit too advanced for me, but I want to make something to that effect, but on a lower level maybe.

I really have no idea what to get. I’ve heard of Final Cut, Sony Vegas, Premiere.. but I don’t know anything about them. Are they for my level or are they for professionals only? By the way, I’m using a MacBook Pro 4GB ram 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo if that helps. I know some of these software require very powerful hardware so I need something that can operate on my entry-level Mac.

Thank you in advance for any help! 😀
