If the director is really freaking good, can he save a movie which has a very lousy script? or is it THE END if the scriptwriter does a bad job? which one determines the success of the movie?

I think it’s very hard to save a movie that starts with a bad script. But even a great script can be screwed up by a bad director.
But when it comes to the success of the movie, neither a bad script or a bad director have ever stopped a movie as long as the marketing department knows what it’s doing. How do you think Twilight did so well?
