Q&A: What decade do you think the best movies were made, and why? #2?

Question by Brittney M: What decade do you think the best movies were made, and why? #2?
You’ve seen the question before, but I’m going to updated it now.

I think the best decade of movie making will have to be the 1920’s, because it is an art of its own. Silent movies were and will always be revolutionary. The lost but not forgotten films, will always
be remembered on screen for its charm, allure, imagination, and cinema magic. Silents are a beauty, but it is magical when seen in a dark room or theater, and a orchestra or a piano is playing in the background. It is romantic and full of great child like wonders. I also love silents made before the 20’s.

Favorite silents:

Flesh and the Devil
It
The Sheik, and The Son of the Sheik.
The Four Horseman of Apocalypse
The Kid, and all of Chaplin films
The Big Parade
Greed
Intolerance
Passion of Joan of Arc
The General, and all of Buster Keaton’s
Nosferatu
The Plastic Age
Exist Smiling
Little Annie Rooney
list goes on…..

The reason the 20s was so good for movies was the fact that actors had to rely completely on ACTING since there was no voice to help carry the story. (And u couldn’t fill up the time with a bunch of subtitles or watchers would just feel they were reading a book or something).

Actors had to really ACT and use expression and gestures to the max. And the varous crew had to be expert at costume and makeup too to emphasise every subtle nuance.

The good acting did carry over into the 30’s and even the 40’s to a degree. But as the older actors and actresses got replaced by those who were only familiar with “talking” movies, the acting prowess declined.

With the advent of computer imagery, the acting ability has all but disappeared.

I would agree that the 20’s and 30’s were the best eras for movies that actually had talented actors and actresses.
