Q&A: The Unsolvable DVD Burner question!?

Question by Bodybuildin’: The Unsolvable DVD Burner question!?
I’ve had this question for a very long time.

BASICALLY.

When I burn a video (THAT I RECORDED, I DIDN’T DOWNLOAD IT) and put the DVD in a DVD player, it looks like crap.

Yet when I play the DVD on my computer it looks just fine.

Also, when I play the DVD on a portable DVD player (small screen) it looks fine as well.

Yeah yeah yeah, I realize this has something to do with the resolution/size of the vid.

I just want to be able to eliminate that “stretch” that is created when its played on a large TV.

I have Sony Vegas 8; does enabling widescreen help?

Is it my camera that sucks?

Should I “purchase” sony vegas 9 (which has a “Make Movie” tool which allows you to burn the edited footage in Vegas (better compression/conversion/whatever compared to other DVD burning software?)
