Question by Bill M: Does anyone know how to make a time lapse movie from different photos?
I’ve got a bunch of digital pictures that were taken from *almost* the same vantage point over a series of months — the photographer was standing in pretty much the same place for each photo (within a foot or two), but the camera wasn’t set up on a tripod or anything.

Is anyone aware of any software (or multiple programs) that automatically shift/crops photos like this so that they can be made into a time lapse movie that appears as though it was taken from one precise vantage point?

The only software that ‘lines up’ photos for you is Photomatix. And it only does it by combining an under exposed, normal, and over exposed photo to make whats called and HDR Image.

What YOU can do however, is get an advanced Photo Editor (IE Photoshop, GIMP..)

Open one photo
place the next one in the same document, but on the layer on top of it.
Drop the top ones opacity to 50%, and line it up yourself.
Place the 3rd one on a new layer on top of the 2nd
Drop to 50% opacity, and line it up yourself

Repeat for all photos

Then, just crop the photo so any overlapping edges are cut off.

Now save them all separately, and they will all be identically sized and aligned

Then just put in your video/gif animator
: Windows Media Player
: Animated Gif Wizard
: Sony Vegas 7.0
: Adobe After Effects CS4
^– You can do all the photo editing work in After Effects and Vegas.
