Poetry Challenge: Enter the Matrix?

Question by NexxJordan: Poetry Challenge: Enter the Matrix?
Here’s the challenge. Make a poem that is based on your favorite movie. Mention the movie you’re using at the top or bottom of your poem. It can be as long or short as you want. I’ll start, and you tell me what you think of it:

“The Matrix”

What is a slave?
Is it an organism denied control of his own life
Confined to a cell
Forced into manual labor
Persuaded to follow a stiff, rigid template of rules and laws as others see fit?

What is freedom?
Is it a right or a privilege
Is it sacred, or can it belong to anyone
And more importantly
does it have a price?

The Revolutionary War cost thousands of lives
Entire squads of troops left bleeding and dying in the middle of hostile, brutal, unforgiving trenches
Families torn apart, friends lost
Billions of dollars spent in wasted combat
All so you can wave your pretty little 13 stripes
Over this filthy piece of land you call home

And for what?
So that everyday you can pass by this stained green giant holding a damn torch in her hand like she’s king of the world
Or by a patriotic monument so great and wonderful that it’s cracked, broken, and mispells the very city it’s placed in
Or by those 9 giant white picket wood letters heralding the fakest city in the world like it’s something to be proud of
On your way to work
Where you’re confined to a cubicle
Forced into labor
And kindly persuaded to follow a stiff rigid set of rules and laws as your bosses see fit before they threaten to hand out the pink slips

This is your freedom
Also known as slavery
but you wouldn’t have it any other way
would you?

Your turn

Wow, I can’t beat yours, you have a way with words, but I will take my turn….

“The Color Purple”

Didn’t have a choice, my life was not my own,
given away by my father and forced to leave home.
Young but not free I became a slave – to fulfill anothers’ needs.
Taking care of children, but not my own – cooking a cleaning…
…but nothing in it for me.
The closest family I had, the only one who cared
my sister’s and my relationship were not even spared.
Never felt real love, only abuse
my heart a rug mat to lay your dirty shoes.
Time went on, it never got better
if only my Nettie would send me a letter.
Bad things happened from day to day
His mistress comes disrespecting me
saying “girl you sure is UG-LY!”
Once my enemy, she becomes my friend
one I can tell secrets and in who I can depend.
I helped her and she said she will help me
looks like my break through, I’ll soon be set free!
Shug went to the mail box one day
while the men were acting a fool and drinking away
she came to me with a letter to my surprise …
it was from my dear sister Nettie..it brought tears to my eyes!
We found all the letters that she had over the years sent
for the next several days reading letters was how my day was spent.
This story goes on and on my friend and it really gets better way at the end.
So just know that when in life things don’t go your way
there is always someone watching out for you and give you a better day.
What goes around comes around not matter what people say
Just put out good and in the end good will come your way.

God Bless – have a great night!
