Movie Training & Film Making Tips – Volume 8

In this installment of Film Making tips, let’s get back to the actual process of making movies. Today, we’re going to discuss finding a passionate partner.

No man is an island. I don’t remember where that’s from, but it’s so true. If you think that you are going to be able to do this all on your own, you might want to rethink that. Making a movie is a lot of hard work and very time consuming. There are more things to think about than you can possibly imagine.

In short…you want a partner.

So why do I say, “Find a passionate partner?”

The answer is simple. As much time as YOU are going to put into this project, you are going to want your partner to put in just as much time. Well, somebody who is going to be THAT committed MUST be passionate about what they’re doing. Otherwise, they’re going to get tired and burnt

out.

Okay, so how do you go about finding that passionate partner? Well, you probably want to start with people in the same position as you…just starting out. You want to interview people. You want to get inside their head and see what makes them tick.

What you are looking for more than anything else, even smarts, is somebody who essentially says to you, “Making movies is my life. If I don’t do this, there is nothing else for me.” THAT is the kind of person you want working with you. THAT is a passionate partner.

How will you know you’ve found one? Believe me, you will. And you don’t want to settle for anything less because if you do, what you will find out is that YOU are doing most of the work.

And that is NOT a partnership.
