I am basically looking for anything a bit more advanced than the bundled movie making software it comes with. Free is obviously best, but I wouldn’t mind paying for something dynamic yet somewhat easy to use. Thanks!

WindowsXP comes with a free video editor called Windows Movie Maker. Just go to Start> Programs> Windows Movie Maker. You can edit video and audio, add narration and titles, add effects and transitions. The interface is very easy to understand.
The next step up would be Sony Vegas Movie Studio. You can usually find it on sale for $ 40 after rebate. It is a fully-featured video editor based on the professional Vegas version.
