Joel Erb – SBA Speech – Part 2

On a summer day in 1998, Joel, only 14 years old at the time, had a vision of designing websites for the likes of Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci and others. He already had experience creating websites that won artistic notoriety. With a phone script in hand, he gathered the phone numbers for Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein and others and made a few phone calls. To his surprise, he was given an appointment to meet with the directors of marketing in New York City. Two weeks later he used a friend of the family’s limousine to visit the offices of Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani. Despite his young age, the firms were impressed. From there Joel created numerous concepts and selling pieces for many of the New York fashion houses using new and unique technology. After September 11, 2001, due to the heavy concentration of his clients in New York City, Erb’s revenue plummeted and he was forced to reduce his staff by eight employees. He quickly reconsidered his decision to skip college and enrolled full-time in the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond where he earned his BSBA in 2006 while continuing to grow his business. Significant milestones include the launch of a new set of services in 2004 that allowed the company to compete on a global scale as a full service marketing and advertising IMC agency. In 2005 Inet Network moved to an award winningly-designed office in Richmond’s Historic Shockoe Bottom. Mr. Erb currently serves as President and CEO of INM
