I was given a home movie. I have copied it to my computer but now I would like to make a few single pictures out of some of the frames of the movie. Is this possible? what program would I need or how would I do this?

There are many methods to do a capture of a single frame. Since you describe your computer as a “computer” only, and give no hint as to what kind, what OS (MAC or Windows or Linux or ?), I cannot begin to suggest software. There are many for every OS. See a search on Google.
