How to make a video darker in Windows Movie Maker/other software?

Question by I Am Who I Am: How to make a video darker in Windows Movie Maker/other software?
Is there any effects in Windows Movie Maker that I could use to make a video turn darker or can I download some plug-ins for it? Besides, any other software that are able to do this? Like by filtering the video, making it look darker. For example, if you watch a horror movie, you find that it is darker but when they do the filming, it’s not. How did they do it?

Try using the Brightness Decrease effect. I believe you can drop up to 6 of these effects onto a single clip to decrease the darkness even more. It’s very simple compared to the controls in other more expensive software, but it might do the trick for you.

Horror films are edited with systems that offer what’s called “color correction” software. These are much more elaborate and expensive systems. If you’re interested in it, I suggest looking into Adobe Premiere.
