how to get into the film industry?

Question by Crystal M: how to get into the film industry?
i’m seventeen, & i left school last year.

i was planning on going back to school so i could get A-levels in film-related subjects, however I think that most people take them as doss lessons and aren’t serious about film. therefore i would be wasting my time with these people (i’m not making assumptions i have friends that want to get into photography and journalism who have done these courses and tell me this.)

I would prefer to meet people who are serious about getting into the film business and make contacts. i don’t want to get into the hollywood side, i want to make independent movies.

I can go to study at a UNIVERSITY to do something completely unrelated to film (a Mental Health Nurse’s Assistant – which has always been my fall-back plan) I think that if I go there, I can speak to the students studying Media or Film, who are serious about making films, and make friends with them and hopefully make films with them! Then I will be making contacts, creating a fall-back plan for myself, AND getting some independence..

it this a good idea?

Majoring in nursing instead of gaining skills for the career you want. No, it’s not. Entertainment industry is not easy to break into, you have to make it your priority. If you want to have a chance of breaking in, go to film school.
