You know those tiny icon-ish movie clips that are really short? Only like 5 seconds long? They aren’t slide shows. Does anyone have a link to a site that makes them? What are they called?

If I read this correctly, your asking about flash videos. Flash is an internet player system that plays theses clips. there exist many ways to make these clips, from rendering software to drawing software, to camcorders and cameras, and probably much more. I have a program that makes webpages and it has a button I can click on to get a flash player on the page. I then double click on the image created on my screen and I can control what the player does, what the viewer gets and what file, be it on a hard drive within my LAN or on a server, can be linked to to play when someone enters the page. The web page builder I use is BlueVoda, by Voda Host.
