How can these old movies now be in HD or Blue Ray?

Question by Bababooye1: How can these old movies now be in HD or Blue Ray?
There are coming out with all these HD and Blue Ray discs for movies that came out in the 70’s and 80’s. Are they really in HD? I mean if i buy The Godfather HD or Blue Ray you’re telling me that is going to have the same definition as say a movie that just came out like Spiderman 3 or any recent movie for that matter. I dont understand how they could take that old film and make it HD. Its different technology. I know old movies were spruced up with DVD technology but they cant really make old movies HD can they?

well they can improve the quality leaps and bounds yes but true HD I sincerely doubt that. Though one thing, you will see Marlon Brando sweat in the Godfather
