How can I legally make a digital copy of a movie a smaller file?

Question by keenith123: How can I legally make a digital copy of a movie a smaller file?
Hello,
The other day I bought a combo pack of a movie that came with the blu-ray disc, a DVD, and a digital copy of the movie. I put the DVD into my computer and had it download the copy of the movie in iTunes. The file is about 1.3 GB and there isn’t enough room for it on my iPod Touch 4G (the one with the camera). I need a way to legally make the file smaller so it can fit on my iPod. I tried opening it in PowerDirector by CyberLink and Windows Movie Maker but since it is a protected .m4v file it won’t open. Any suggestions or ideas or any tips for the next time I download movie or get the digital copy?
Thanks for help!

Its called Hamster. It takes one video type, and converts it into another video file of a different size/quality. See if it can work for your movie, Im not certain, Ive never tried it. Convert it to whichever file type you’re looking for ( It even lets you select the device you’re putting it on ).

Should help.
