How are Tim burton’s motion-stop dolls made?

Question by : How are Tim burton’s motion-stop dolls made?
In movies such as Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, what is the material they use to make the bodies/heads, and what technique they use to make the dolls move and replace heads (for different expressions).
A guide or tutorial would be wonderful if you have it!

These project are usually done with plasticine, oil based modeling clay, which comes in many colors and never hardens, or by making soft vinyl models missing features on which plasticine is formed. If you look you will see there are far more expressions than is practical to have heads laying around. Of course, most stuff like this is done with computer animation modeling and I would not be surprised if Burton now uses all three techniques.
