Healthy Families BC: The Making of Sodium City

If you’ve seen our Sodium City ad on television and in movie theatres, here’s how it was made! Transcript: [music] Kelsey Dundon (Traction Creative): “So, how did Sodium City come to be? Well we needed to do a campaign that was going to help educate British Columbians on the amount of sodium that we consume, because quite frankly it is a bit frightening. But it’s also not the easiest subject in the world to tell people about because we as human being, as British Columbians there’s a reason we eat so sodium/ consume so much salt it’s because we like it.” “So we needed to find a way that was going to entertaining and educational and compelling and bring people in so that the story all of a sudden becomes about them and it’s something they can relate to. As part of the Healthy Families BC program, we’re really talking to families in British Columbia and by that very nature we’re speaking to people of all different age ranges.” “Sodium City was born out of our love for video games and our fascination with animated feature films and all of the flexibility that that enables us to have. We brought the Embassy on board because they’re Oscar nominated for their work on District 9 and do beautiful work.” Tristan Gieni (Embassy Visual Effects): “HI, I’m Tristan Gieni and I am the Visual Effects Supervisor for Sodium City.
