HD Up conversion DVD Player Questions.?

Question by silverwolf_20015: HD Up conversion DVD Player Questions.?
I bought A new olivea HDTV a few weeks ago, and last night I got an RCA DVD player (model number is DRC290). It has an HDMI Output, (and I do have the hdmi cable hooked up.) It is supposed to up-convert my original DVDs to different resolutions to HD I guess. I read the manual but I still had some questions, and maybe someone has answers on here. My TV only goes up to 1080i, and the different choices resolutions on the DVD player are (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.) When I switch between the first 3 I can’t really tell any difference in the picture, but maybe it’s just me. What is the best resolution? 720p or 1080i? I was wondering if the reason I could not tell any difference between the different resolutions may be because of the DVD movie I was playing, and that maybe some DVDs don’t up convert right, or at all. How much better is HDMI compared to component, (red, blue, green) is it worth it? If someone could explain this up conversion to me a little better, and why it’s (supposed to make a difference in the picture) I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Normal DVD are encoded in 480p. The up-conversion will increase the number of scan lines but will not make that much of a difference. You can only do so much with the source material. If you want a real difference, get HD-DVD or BluRay.

Now for the HDMI. You will probably not see any difference at all using HDMI instead of component. Component video is more than capable of handling the highest resolution (1080p).
