Something About Tony

Something about me. I’m Tony.
One way I was able to finance my habits in high school (and beyond) was to earn money by making license plates for the movies. For the most part, I would not have a clue as to what production that they were being used for. Then, on occasion, I would be told what the film title was. Generally, the prop masters would buy printed cardboard plates if the camera wasn’t going to catch them too close. When the camera would require a raised metal plate for a close up, that’s when I came in.
Above are three examples of plates that I have made. The top is from the TV show "Vega$", the middle is from the movie "10", and the lower is from "Knight Rider". These are a few that I remember clearly because they were vanity plates. I remember making the ASCAP plates for the movie "10" thinking what the heck is an ASCAP…sounded nasty. Turned out to stand for "American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers". George (Dudley Moore) was a composer.
As far as the TANNA and KNIGHT plates, I had to make multiple sets of them while the series were being filmed. Sometimes up to ten sets a month. I was told that many of the "screen used" plates were being stolen or given away by crew members as souvenirs. I didn’t mind. It made me money.
