Copyright needed for Movie Poster on product for commercial use?

Question by JT: Copyright needed for Movie Poster on product for commercial use?
I have an idea for commercial use, making money. For example If i wanted to make a product that utilized the movie poster from a theatrical release and place it on a product, would i need to get permission to use that image? The copyright website seemed a little vague on if i was using the image and selling a product using that image. IE: T-shirt with movie poster? Tagline? would i need permission to use that? Many products are on the internet use logos, photos from movie…do they all have permission? Any Help where to start or would i need a copyright lawyer if i was to make money on a product. It seems I would most likely need to start seeking out copyright permission, correct?

Yes, you do have to get permission from the copyright holder to use their property or likeness.

If it’s for a movie related item, try calling the studio that released it.

If you’re going to make money on the product, they’ll likely want a cut of the proceeds.
