Buying a laptop: Q’s + Advice?

Question by Froto: Buying a laptop: Q’s + Advice?
So I’m looking to buy a Laptop. I just want to go over/confirm things so that I know that I’m finding the right kind of Laptop for me, and so that I make sure I get something that will last (and still be good).

Basically, from my searching around on the Futureshop or Bestbuy sites, it’s become my understanding that these are going to be the most important things to look for (besides brand and price). I’ve included what I would like to call my minimum requirements. This is all based on what I know to be current (and I’m not looking to spend a fortune either).

RAM: No less then 4 GB.
Hard Drive: MINIMUM 500 GB, I would obviously like more (640?)
Video Card: ATI Radeon or GeForce (apparently any model of these that they are using will be ‘top of the line’ )
Processors: Intel ones are supposed to be the best.

I also think that the below would be necessary as well (but not as crucial):

USB: min 3 (want to be able to run enough stuff, flexible)
Screen: 15″ plus (I can be flexible if it saves me money)
Webcam + Card-reader + Preloaded Software: All appear standard, so YES.

Do you agree or disagree with any of that (based on what you know is out there)? I want to be able to use this for several, several years before it becomes completely outdated (I know this can happen fast).

Here are my intended uses:
MS word documents.
Watching Movies.
Playing Music + iTunes.
Surfing the Internet.
Playing some games (not super demanding ones).
Burn my own CD/DVDs.
Hacking into online bank accounts . . . ormaybenot . . .
Etc, I think that should be enough.

In terms of brands, I’m thinking that HP looks good, any suggestions or things to stay away from? I’m looking for quality here.

Thanks a lot, I can always add any more info that you need. I would be connecting to my houses wifi network, and probably doing some (not a ton of) traveling.
Thanks for noticing that, Split F. What I mean is that the versions that are being used will likely be decent ones. For instance, ATI Radeon HD 4250 seems to be appearing a lot. So I assume that it is a good one?
Thanks for all the helpful input. I’m assuming that people generally agree with my findings then? The stuff suggested (specifically) has been out of my price range though, I can maybe go a maximum $ 600 before tax.

Is completely incorrect. If you want to play games on it now and then, certainly get a dedicated GPU and get one that is good enough for whatever games you want to play.
