Anyone want to help me pick out the dream computer?

Question by pinacoladaxb: Anyone want to help me pick out the dream computer?
I’m ready to buy a new computer, but I want it to be the last time I have to buy one for a very long time. If anyone has any ideas as to what to buy, please share.

My opinion of the perfect computer would be a Mac Pro with these specifications:
* Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
* 32GB (8x4GB)
* Mac Pro RAID Card
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (Bay 1)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (Bay 2)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (Bay 3)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (Bay 4)
* NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB
* Apple Cinema HD Display (30″ flat panel) (Screen 1)
* Apple Cinema HD Display (30″ flat panel) (Screen 2)
* Two 16x SuperDrives
* Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
* Quad Channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express Card
* Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) User’s Guide
* Aperture preinstalled
* Final Cut Express preinstalled
* iWork ’08 preinstalled
* Logic Express preinstalled
* AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac Pro (w/or w/o Display) – Auto-enroll
* Apple USB Modem
* Mac OS X Server (Unlimited-Client)
* 1-year Family Pack subscription
* AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
* HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier
* Xsan 2

The way I arrived at that was by finding the most expensive mac computer and picking the most expensive add-ons. The total was a whopping $ 27,000!!!!! Although this is ridiculous, you’d have to admit it is THE dream computer. lol. Here’s the link to the Mac Pro page:

Let’s get back on track now. What would be the best computer for me? This is what I am going to be using the computer for:
1. Making high-quality movies using mac software.
2. Making video games using windows software.
3. Surfing the web.
4. Writing music.
5. Playing games.

So my computer would have to:
1. Be a mac so that I can use both operating systems.
2. Have a lot of hard drive space. Making HD movies takes up an immense amount of space!!!
3. Be able to handle Unreal Tournament III.
4. Have 2 screens……because I heard it was the only way to go.
5. Keep me satisfied for a long time.

So, with this information in mind, could you go to the apple store and try to find the least expensive computer that meets these requirements? It could be fun! I just want the opinion of other people. I may be smart, but I have no idea how to pick out a computer. Please help? Here’s the link to the apple store:

I know very little vocabulary when it comes to computer hardware. When I’m reading about the computer, I have no idea what I am reading, really. One way you could be very helpful would be to explain to me each upgrade of the computer, what it does, and how it helps. Help me understand what I am picking out. If you can do that, then you don’t even need to help me choose my computer.

Thanks. I’ll look into that further.

You seem like a very inexperienced person with a Windows obsession. 😀
I don’t want to be mean, but I’m going to have to disregard everything you said for now. Could you maybe edit your answer to be more helpful?

I just drew out a 2:3 30″ screen on paper, and it was huge! It’s about 19″ X 23″. Is there any reason to get this big of a screen, or should I just get two 23″ screens?
@ acehigh210
I just wanted to show you exactly where you were wrong. I was a bit vague in my other post.

1. You rudely underestimated my knowledge. I know more than just Flash.
2. The best cheap-ish software for making movies is Final Cut Studio 2, which I have, which is for mac.
3. Macs are as good, if not better, for gaming. Maybe you should read up on this kind of stuff before answering.
4. Two screens rock.
5. Macs are better. They can run Windows as well as any Windows computer, and they cannot get viruses. The ONLY con about a good mac is the steep price.

Here’s my build for your needs:
* Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
* 8GB (4x2GB)
* 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (for system)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (for files)
* 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (scratch disk for rendering hd)
* NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (amazing video card)
* Apple Cinema Display (20″ flat panel) (secondary)
* Apple Cinema HD Display (30″ flat panel) (primary)
* One 16x SuperDrive (I don’t see any use for more than one drive)
* Apple Mighty Mouse (of course)
* Apple Keyboard + User’s Guide (again…duh)
* Final Cut Express preinstalled (video editing)
* Logic Express preinstalled (music writing)
* AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi) (teh internets is pretty important)

Thats probably the LOW end for what your needs are. That was $ 7,945.00.
