every once in a while i make short movies on my computer. Most of these short movies involve pictures and text to be timed with the music in the background. Are there any careers that involve doing this?

Yup, video editing. Most the sound you hear in movies is added sound. They take a boom mic out and capture sounds. ie) In Lord of the Rings, the flying demon creatures, the sound they made was actually a donkey. Once they get the sounds and the clips, the video editor puts it on a timeline using Final Cut Pro or Avid and creates one sequence.

The best way to get into this field is to get a degree in it. There’s media production, television and film, tv production and many other programs to teach people these traits. A few real good schools for this is NYU, USC, SCAD, FSU, UCLA, UTexas. Most state and major universities have a media production degree, but to specialize in a specific area gets competitive.
