Why do people put ‘rude’ signatures in forums and the like?

Question by Masternachos: Why do people put ‘rude’ signatures in forums and the like?
I’ve been on a few forums (specifically, Deviantart, EU3 and Age of Empires III: Napoleonic Expansion. For those who want to know, that’s a creative content website and two PC games) in my day, and notice people have signatures at the bottom. Most are usually inside jokes, or funny quotes from movies, etc. But, occasionally, I’ll notice one I think is totally out of place for this kind of forum. I don’t know why, but they always seem to be atheistic comments (I can’t think of any others I’ve seen that I would consider ‘rude’, and stick with me, I’ll explain WHY I think they’re rude). Now, I could not care LESS if you are an atheist (again, these are the only ones I’ve noticed). But, I just think these kinds of signatures (for example, quoting Dawkins saying ‘I refuse to be polite to religion!’ or whatever, or saying ‘I grew up and stopped believing in fairy tales and God’) are the kind of thing that, to me, seem to be ‘inviting’ people to get upset.
Now, if I saw a signature like, ‘Only those who believe in God could ever be moral,’ or ‘All thinking people are Christian,’ well, I would ALSO feel that was out of place. Now, if the forum was ABOUT that kind of thing (say, a religious or atheist forum), then that would be fine. But we’re talking about video games. If you’re going to talk about your beliefs, can’t you do it in a more ‘positive’ way?
Or is this just me? I always WAS one to consider the feelings of EVERYBODY before saying/writing anything.
So, yeah; what makes people do that kind of thing? (Again, the ‘rude’ kind of comment, wherein they’re really being AGAINST something.)
Just curious.
@MissAnthrophy- That DOES seem to be the case…

Some people just really enjoy being abrasive.
