Why do movie stars make so much money?

Question by Mookamoo R.I.P. MJ: Why do movie stars make so much money?
They can make millions of dollars for acting, but teachers hardly make that much money just enough to get by. Teachers ( at least they good ones) educate our children, but you can make more acting in a movie even if they movie doesn’t do well. I just think it’s crazy. What do ya’ll think?

Teaching is a noble profession, but teaching is NOT A BUSINESS. Hollywood is a business and it has only one purpose: To make millions by getting the public to see the movies it produces. Additionally, only an extremely small percentage of those people who are actors by profession make millions.

From a BUSINESS standpoint, look at it this way: If a movie studio can ‘invest’ 15 million dollars in an actor or actress and have that movie make 100+ million dollars, it is ONE GREAT RETURN on that investment. This is business 101.

Many, many people have aspired to become movie actors, but only an extremely small percentage become rich and famous. It is these fortunate few who by their skills, but many times by luck and being in the right place at the right time, wildly succeed.

They make big money because they BRING IN big money to the producers, director, and studios in general. Hollywood and movies are big business, and that’s what it’s all about. You can’t make big money of you don’t have the BIG STARS that can bring in the big money by drawing the public to their movies.

In a sense, teachers’ incomes and the majority of actors’ wages are more in line than you think. Remember the old quip:

There are thousands ands thousands of actors and actresses in Hollywood, and most of them are waiters and waitresses.
