Screenwriting Class Advice?

Question by Billy Converse: Screenwriting Class Advice?
Hello, I am currently thinking about taking a Beginning Screenwriting/Fundamentals of Screenwriting (it’s one or the other) class, but my mom and brother were saying that I would take a Film Crew Technician course. The course sounds cool but I’m not sure if it’s right for my screenwriting interests, it says one of the topics that will be covered is scripts and script breakdown, but I don’t know if they write them, or if they’re already written and they just discuss them. So I need to know if I should take the screenwriting class, or the film crew technician course because I am really only interested in the writing process of movie making.

If writing is what interests you – take screenwriting. The technician class is going to be something totally different – hands-on how to place mics…. move sets around..etc. That’s not what you want is it ? You can always learn that stuff on your own working around it. If the teacher is good (meaning has experience writing scripts) you will learn a lot. Good luck.
