Q&A: Which version of Sony Vegas Movie Maker is compatible with AVCHD files?

Question by : Which version of Sony Vegas Movie Maker is compatible with AVCHD files?
I have always been using Windows Movie maker, but now I need to buy another movie making software (And I’ve heard good things about Sony Vegas) that is compatible with AVCHD files. So I was wondering what is the cheapest (or a list of all) version of Sony Vegas that you can use AVCHD files on? Ideally, I’m looking for something that is cheap, but also works well. My budget is around 100

AVCHD is HD Lite (mts or m2ts files) which most commercial editors like Sony Vegas handle well. You could also use Adobe Premier Elements.

According to Sony’s comparison chart, you could use the cheapest version, Vegas Movie Studio HD, but it has so few options that getting the next higher version, Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, would be much better. This version sells for ~$ 80 on amazon.

Adobe’s Premier Elements also has a lot of options.

Adobe also has a Students/Teachers Store where you can buy Premier Elements 9 for $ 69.
