Q&A: what does it mean in scripts when the text says “in a beat”?

Question by Mono: what does it mean in scripts when the text says “in a beat”?
I have seen it used in different ways and i am seeing it more for example the line was “they kiss for a beat” and another line was “she examines it for a beat”. In another script it was used in a totally different way. thanks!

a beat meaning a time syncopation like in music, i think you are talking about a play or musical, so it just means a short while
