Q&A: Stuck in a paycheck by paycheck rutt and dont know how to get out?

Question by Wendy: Stuck in a paycheck by paycheck rutt and dont know how to get out?
My job makes around 59k, which I know, most people will say is great etc. But really, it isnt. Living in a decent place costs money (in my area a one bedroom runs for 1300 or more), traveling costs, if i save, I cannot do anything else like shopping and going out ot eat with friends – and forget about owning a home. No one is going ot give me a mortgage in NYC on a 59 k income – unless i move way the hell out of NYC and to the country – which is not what I want to do – I like the city. I already dont have a car, so I am not blowing anything on that, but eating healthy and good and living in a nice place and doing fun things require money. The job market is bad so looking for a job hasnt proven anything, even though i do have masters from an ivy league.

I see stars make 20 million per movie and can easily buy about 3 homes in upper west side…and I workd so hard and got educated and I barely pull 59k a year and would have ot work for decades and decades to make even one million. I am sick of this and I dont know what to do. Go into acting? Become a banker? Stay with my boring job that doesnt allow me to lead the life I want? I am lost.

You get out by moving the hell out of NYC. You’re living paycheck to paycheck because you’re getting taxed to death. Texas has no state taxes, Florida has no state taxes. I’d check those places first. I’ve lived in Texas before and you’d be amazed at how much more money stays in your bank account because of the lack of a state tax.
