Q&A: Recent promoted manager (promoted over me) asking ME for tips to put in a training,to help HIM.?

Question by jacob: Recent promoted manager (promoted over me) asking ME for tips to put in a training,to help HIM.?
Ive been at a small company for almost six years.Worked hard and am one of the (exceptional) employees, brought more money in (sales) than anyone… Well one day two years ago,a guy started working here, and two weeks later he was promoted above me after TWO weeks of being here, making DOUBLE my salary.Bottom line,he is supposed to be training guys to do what i do,be more like me,and he wants me to write a script/tell my secret sales tricks, to him so he can train this to people. All the while, this “manager” dogs me every chance he gets, talks sh#@ about me,says snive comments etc etc….My problem is that i am JUST learning to “play the game” later in life, and im succedding only marginally. So this guy is loved by the owner of our company because our owner is blind, and thinks he “trains” people to sell this stuff, when in reality ,if they are salesy, and have drive, they can sell it trained or not…But he plays “the game” well so he is loved by the owner…

I guess my question is…do i help him create a training for what i do and get no credit?

I mean,im afraid if i dont help him,i wont be “playing the game”…. im just frustrated,i dont want to help him,he doesnt help me…All him and the other guy do is put me down because they are TRULY threatened by me…..

How do i tell him im not going to give him help? (if i decide i shouldnt help him)

Is there a website that is specific about work polotics? That could help me?

I appreciate all of your help and answers….really
oops,i noticed i spelled politics wrong.Hope answers arent based on spelling!I didnt spell check! ha

Hi

I would suggest you discuss your disappointment in your colleague’s behaviour however you’ve worked there six years have you ever discussed with your manager that you have an interest in career progression? Have you applied for promotions within the organisation prior to this?

If you have worked there six years you should have quarterly or yearly appraisals which is a structured and detailed feedback notes relating to performance and the expectations from both of you and your manger.

Regardless of your colleague and his promotion you know nothing of the individual career and experience to date including his work performance to date within your current environment.

I would suggest you sit down with your manager and discuss your future career and development needs including your interest in progression however not using some the language you have used prior. Also look at your achievements and progression to date and forget about your colleague for now only for your own self interest, be supportive but do not disclose much other then your obligated to at work

Good Luck
