In writing about movie making I want to use the correct term for it. Is filming a movie defined exactly the same as making a video with a digital cam?

Most folks refer to it that way – but technically, you are correct… using a digital cam and tape (or hard drive or flash memory) does not use film. The technically correct descriptions are “Shooting video” or “capturing video” or “video taping” (if tape is used).
