Q&A: If a man shrinks to six inches tall as in the movie “Tooth Fairy”, would his voice become high pitched?

Question by perryinjax: If a man shrinks to six inches tall as in the movie “Tooth Fairy”, would his voice become high pitched?
As a life long musician I am familiar with the fact that the smaller an instrument or guitar string or drum etc.., the higher the pitch and vice versa..
Well, I am watching this movie, and as always, I like to Google; “Name of movie” – “Goofs” which takes me to a page that tells me about interesting things to watch for in the movie I am about to see, an aspect of the film making process, and the one’s that are accidentally exposed, and just otherwise interesting things to watch for in the movie as it progresses.
It is an fun thing to do as it adds an extra bit of dimension to movie watching.
I would suggest you check out some of the “Goofs” in “Thunderball” to make yourself familiar with how much more fun you can have when watching a movie by first checking out this page and it’s sister pages, there is one like this for almost every movie;

Anyways, back to my question now that you understand where it originates…
I have seen a goof posted for “Tooth Fairy” as the following;
“Mistake Plot hole: Derek uses Shrinking Paste to shrink himself to a height of six inches. His voice becomes very high-pitched even though there is no logical reason for this.”

This is not an accurate statement… correct?
Instead, it IS indeed logical that one’s voice would become higher if he could use such a shrinking paste… Am i correct?
This is why a cello is deeper than a violin, or a bass drum is the lowest in the set, or why the fat E string is deeper than the skinny E string on my guitar…
right?
so my question is this; Is that goof incorrect for saying it is not logical that his voice gets higher pitched when he shrank to six inches tall? instead it WOULD be logical, right?
Thank you for your time to read such a long question, hopefully you will be rewarded with a new addition to the fun of movie night, I suggest you check out the goofs listed at the site next time you are cranking up the ol’ dvd player while the popcorn is in the microwave…you may find it “neato” to know to watch for the cameraman, director, and sound guy all clearly visible in the reflection of an actor’s car door, maybe even though you have seen the movie a thousand times and never noticed it before…..
That is one of my favorite kind of “goofs” btw. …. the ones called “crew or equipment visible” are pretty cool sometimes.
Thank you in advance for your answers about size=pitch;

The vocal chords are his “instrument” or “Guitar strings”;
When he shrinks, his vocal chords would have the same tension, but smaller in length and diameter, thus raising the pitch, this is what I think, please correct me if i am wrong and the goof is right.
Thanks again.

I would think it would get higher. Shortening the vocal cords is like shortening a guitar or violin string. At half the length with the same amount of tension, the pitch would be twice as high. In my opinion the person who posted that “goof” was mistaken.
