Q&A: Help on the appropriate software/hardware for video editing?

Question by emily051405: Help on the appropriate software/hardware for video editing?
I started creating DVD’s about 3 years ago and am currently using Magix Movie Edit Pro. I spend a lot of time and effort on my videos and have been approached a couple of times by people asking me to put together a video for them (mostly for family occasions like Christmas or birthdays). I want to take the DVD’s I’m creating to the next level and am looking for the best software and hardware to do this. I want my DVD’s to look as professional as possible and am having a hard time figuring out the best way to proceed. The research I’ve done talks about Mac and Final Cut Pro being the best but it seems that this would be more appropriate for someone who is a professional and making a living at it. That is definitely not me but I do take it very seriously and want to upgrade from my current system. Any suggestions?.
