My computer when shutting down runs logoff scripts what is this?

Question by aligrespeq: My computer when shutting down runs logoff scripts what is this?
I have noticed this in the past 2 months. It takes more time to shut down. This is my work laptop. Is this some kind of surveillance system ? i have nothing to worry about but it would still be good to know whats going on with the computer.

Logon and logoff scripts are little scripts (which are like programs, but way smaller and easier to write) that are triggered to run when you log on or off your machine. They’re put in place by the IT department. Usually logon scripts do things like map network drives; I’m less familiar with what you’d do with logoff scripts.

If the logoff scripts are taking a long time to run, it may be they’re timing out on something. I would ask someone in IT about it; it may be that an older network share isn’t accessible any more or something like that.

I wouldn’t worry about it being a surveillance system; IT departments often do run surveillance programs, but they run in the background while you’re working, not at logoff. One of these programs is called LANDesk; you often see them in the Systray (the secton on the right of your Windows Taskbar, next to the clock).
