Making a Movie?

Question by Calvin B: Making a Movie?
Alright so i am 16 and i am planning on making a 30 Days kind of documentary of my life. Where i try to stay fit for football and have a job AND try to keep my social life going. I plan to post it on both Youtube and on a blog called Portrait on the Mantle. The movie is more a look at my inner thoughts in a challenge to stay cool with my friends. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what to expect or how i might go about producing it so that i can churn out a good quality video in minimal time. I’ll be using Windows Media Maker unless there is a better production software I should know about. Any suggestions would be great thanks.

Try starting with a week, and not 30 days.

With documentaries, you shoot dozens of hours of tape, for every minute on screen (You never know what’s important, so the camera usually runs all the time).

More planning up front saves time later. So the better job you do planning, and cataloging tape, the more time you’ll save during post-production/editing.

When it comes time to edit, be ruthless. It’s not nearly as interesting as you think it is.
