I am making a documentary about band camp for a school project. I am an amateur at movie making and have no idea where to start. I want my documentary to look professional and for that i need a good camcorder that has good sound quality and a good picture. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good camcorder that is also affordable (one that preferably does not exceed $ 500)? Also, if you can think of other things i would need in order to make a great documentary, please feel free to list the items. Thanks for all your help!

under 500? ohh this is gonna be tough. for a camcorder i would suggest the canon hv20 even tho it exceeds your limit. i got it for 659$ at circuit city, and it really is a great camera. it shoots hdv and mini dv, and has great quality picture. the sound is also pretty good. it even has an accessory shoe so that you can connect your own external mic to get great audio also.
